When it comes time to enter a username and password, you can still get in to the workstation by hitting cancel. How can i stop users from getting through when they hit the cancel button?

If you are running win9x users can press esc or click cancel and get into the local machine.
You can stop this by running poledit.exe (available on the Win95 cd, and probably on win98 as well).
Select local hardware settings and under networking there is the option something like "require NT logon authentication". Check this box and save it as a config.pol file to the netlogon directory of your NT Server. Each machine will then auto update itself when it's logged on.
Good lUck,
Rich

Another way, simpler yet more dangerous, is to edit the 95/98 registry. Go to the Run command and type regedit. Then go here -

Hkey_Local_Machine>>>Network>>>Logon

In the Logon folder create a new String value. Name it - MustBeValidated - and make the value 1.

Now on that machine you will have to log onto the network in order to use the computer. I've done this plenty of times to know that it won't screw up your computer.

This is effectively the same method, except it doesn't require users directly editing their registry settings. Using the poledit method you do not have to visit each machine individualy or mess about with remote admin settings or reg files and logon scripts. Poledit can also restrict other things you may find useful, like access to the registry editing tools and control panel.
But it's up to you,
Rich.
