Hello,

I'm trying to reinstall Windows NT 4.0 on a P133 PC with 64MB RAM. Previous to my last installation, I partitioned the disk (C: 1G and d: 2G).

Now I want to reinstall NT. I wondered what was the simplest way, and made a DOS boot disk. That doesn't read the NTFS disks (well, what do you see?) so I am kind of stuck. I now formatted the secondary disk, so that it runs FAT32. I am trying to install NT on that, but will that work?

I now ask this: could the whole thing be as simple as this:

1. Make WinNT Boot and Setup Disks
2. Delete the WinNT Directory
3. Boot the newly made floppy, and run the installation file from E:\I386\winnt.exe (CD-rom).

Would appreciate an answer. Guidelines for NT installation also wanted

It is almost as simple as you have outlined, but you will NOT be able to install NT on a FAT32 partition...

These 'links' are to posts that contain the basic 'how to go about it...' with numerous links included to various resources/options; including one from this NT forum (message 3279) which offers an interesting and viable route as well...

http://www.ntfaq.com John Savill's NT site...
(Installations section is where you need to start).

Some of the info in one post was in relation to '95/NT but it's basically the same requirement for '98?NT and '95/NT...

Have good read, and then if you need more help come back?

Giving you the links save me typing it all out again, and also gives other resources 'credit' too...

Good luck,

LM-S

Format both partitions as Fat16. Use Delpart if you have trouble getting rid of the NTFS partition.
Create WinNT setup disks by running winnt /o from the CD. Install NT to the first fat16 partition and you're sorted.

I would like to double boot my computer with win98 and winNT (both FAT16) but when i enter NT setup, my harddisk is recognized as
8 GB while it should be 15 GB.

My question: Where can i find the appropriate drivers for win NT to recognize my harddisk?

NT Actually sees you complete hard drive but will only reconize it when you use disk adminstrator after you have NT installed. The maximum FAT16 partition you can install on is 4GB but you have to use the NT disk to do that not DOS. If you make your machine Dual boot you are going to have serious performance problems.

As for the dual boot the easiest way to complete that would be to load Windows 98 on you system first and the NT on top of. You can use the same partition but if you make any of the partitions NTFS the Windows 98 side will not reconize it. And the same for a FAT32 Partition and NT. Recommended is to install it on different partitions, that way if you choose to get rid of one of the operating systems then you would just delete the partition.
