I have acquired a Compaq ProSignia with a on board SCSI and Compaq Array. The CD drive/writer is a Philips CDD2600. I run the install from the 3 floppy disks, NT recognises the Compaq Array and NCR 53C701 SCSI on board as mass storage. However it does not recognise the CD drive. I know the CD drive works as I verified this on a another computer. The Compaq onboard BIOS does see the SCSI CD Drive

Any ideas, do I need drivers for the CD Drive. Without the CD Drive I can not install NT

You may get many answers on how to install the correct SCSI drivers and a few suggestions may work.

But I have found that the easiest way to save time and a whole lot of headaches is to just go purchase an IDE CD drive and use that for the installation. Then hook up the SCSI drive when the OS is up and running.

Thanks, but the Compaq ProSignia server has no IDE on board.

I run NT on an all scsi system and here is what I've found. You must get the NCR 53C701 drivers onto a floppy. Then when loading NT from the three floppies as soon as the black screen says checking hardware information, click F6 and keep clicking F6 for awhile. Then as the first NT floppy goes in it will ask you if you have any third party drivers to install. Follow the instruction and put your NCR drivers in. Later in the third NT floppy it will ask again for third party drivers; install the NCR drivers again. Then put the NT CD in your CD-Rom and it should continue just like any NORMAL M$ operating system. Email me if you still have problems. Good luck!
