I recently installed IE6 on and NT SP6 machine. I no longer have a Directory Tree/Folders view in windows explorer. It is gray with only a close button. The revert back to IE 5.5 doesn't work. It seems a registry entry or dll is missing. Can anyone help?

same thing has happened to me, but not exactlly sure why ore when. I am running IE6, and have updated a lot of other stuff from the microsoft updates site. If I figure out a way to get it back without a reinstall, I will post it. this has really cut down my productivity this week, and is starting to make me so frustrated I have been dreaming of Linux and X Windows. (ignore any misspellings, never my forte)
I believe that IE6 never finished installing. When I first attempted to install IE6 (on Windows 2000) I received an error message about a pending install. The solution is outlined in Q312444. I applied the solution and installed IE6. After I rebooted the system I do not recall seeing the dialog about personalizing IE. I shortly discovered, as you did, that I could no longer see any folders in the left pane of Windows Explorer. Since I could not find an answer on the net, I decided to try and reinstall IE6. To my surprise I received the same error about a pending install! I again applied the solution described in Q312444 (deleting the "PendingFileRenameOperations" key, which had returned) and rebooted without reinstalling IE6. IE6 finished installing (from the first time) and all was right with Windows Explorer.
