How can I extract the day element eg(Thu) from NT's date command ;
date /T
I need to do this to create a daily log file based on the day.
Anybody know how to ?

You could get a syslog server daemon for NT. I'm not sure where I saw it, but there was one "out there" somewhere.

Then you can start and stop the service through scheduler, and have it create new files at midnight, every day.
