Subject: NT Bootable CD

Comment: I know this subject has been posted before, but I still can't do what I want. I'm trying to make a bootable CD with NT Server or Workstation that has the latest service pack and other utilities. What I want to do is reproduce the environment so that the CD will boot and run straight into setup. I can make a bootable CD with CD Creator and get to a DOS prompt, but I want to run setup automatically. Is there a way I can do this?

Reply: (edit)I want to do the same thing, and will try using Winimage to image the original NT CD and add executables for other items such as service packs. You could also try Ghosting an installed system that also has the files you need copied to it. Please post your solution if you like the results.

Reply: (edit)Something I played around with before for this was rawrite. It expands the orginal .dat files onto a floppy for recreation. I have not tried this on the NT CD itself. I'd be interested in seeing your results too. Perry

Reply: (edit)I am currently making recreating environments with a bootable CD. First, I recommend using Ghost 6 to dump a working image into a .GHO file. Then, create a BOOTUP.BAT (same as AUTOEXEC.BAT except with a different name) file that runs GHOST.EXE on bootup. Move that .BAT file, all Ghost application files, and the .GHO image to a single folder for simplicity. Using Adaptec EZ CD Creator, create a data disk that includes all files in that folder. Once you complete the wizard, select Create CD Later. Now go into the Layout Properties and select the format ISO... (not Joliet) and then check the "bootable" box. Once you OK out of that, the program should ask you for a bootable disk to use in making CD bootup files. Insert a DOS disk and press OK. Once this is complete, you should be ready to burn.
