NT Backup

If a scheduled (using at command) NT backup fails, for whatever reason (damaged tape etc) how can NTBACKUP.exe be 'killed' without rebooting. A kill attempt through Task Manager is refused.

try ejecting the tapes. ntbackup will then time out and you can quit it withoiut a reboot.

I know your problem. It's a bug in NT Sometimes when the ntbackup has finished the task will remain so the next time ntbackup needs to start it won't cause it detects that it is already running. Spoke with MS about it and there is no cure.
What I did is before you start up NTBACKUP first kill any ( still running )NTBACKUP

NTBACKUP can be killed using the KILL.exe from the resource kit
