OK.... This is for everyone out there that would like to run both NT and Win98 and are having problems getting both to work. FIRST: FYI, The traditional method of "install 98 first, then install NT" doesn't work if you are using one big drive and would like more than 4 gig for win98. It seems that NT has a bug that requires its system files to be within 4 gig of the beginning of the drive. Here's how to get FAT32 win98 partitions of MORE than 4gig, AND run several NTFS partitions, all on one drive! 1. Erase the entire partition table on your hard drive. (there is a very short assembly lang. script out there...find it on the web) 2. Using a win98 boot disk, run FDISK, do NOT enable FAT32 (large partitions). 3. Create a 125 MB primary partition, make it active, and exit. 4. Restart and format c: 5. Boot again and run FDISK again. 6. Enable FAT32 this time, and create an extended partition that uses the remaining space on the drive. Create your logical drives in this order: 1)NT partitions 2)Win98 partitions 7. Exit FDISK and reboot 8. Format the win98 partitions ONLY!! 9. Using NT Setup Disks, install NT to the NT partitions normally (remember that c: is the 125 boot partition...install NT to d:!!) (you will format the NTFS partitions within the setup program, so don't panic) MAKE SURE YOU MAKE THE EMERGENCY REPAIR DISK! 10. YES! YOU INSTALL NT FIRST! 11. Once NT install is finished, boot NT and format any other NTFS partitions from My Computer! 12. Install win98 normally. NOTE: Your NTFS partitions will not be visible to win98 setup, so stay calm. (i.e. If you have the follwing drive letters: c, d, e, f, g, h originally, C will be your BOOT PARTITION, lets say that D,E, and F are NTFS, then G and H are win98. Once you start the 98 setup, you will only see C,D,E, where C is BOOT, and D and E are your already formatted win98 partitions.) 13. In this case (see above), install win98 to the d:\windows directory. 14. Complete the win98 setup. YOU WILL LOSE THE NT BOOT LOADER WHEN YOU REBOOT. DON'T PANIC! YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!! 15. Shutdown and reboot the computer off of your first NT Setup disk. Follow the instructions until you have the option to "REPAIR A PREVIOUS NT INSTALLATION". Press R now. Select only the "INSPECT BOOT SECTOR" option. When you reboot, you will have your NT OS Loader with both NT and Win98 listed!! Good luck!!
