Since NT can't exist on a fat32 partition I would have to assume you are running NTFS if your dos diskette can't access the file system.

That error though would indicate to me that you are trying to start NT from a dos 6.22 boot diskette???

Sysinternals.com has a free ntfs reader version of ntfsdos.

yes, I do have fat32 partition and nt loaded on it works fine and so does dos
everything is working fine except for trying to read nt files in dos
one partition fat32

MSDOS 6.22 will only install on FAT16 partitions, NT4 will install on FAT16 and the original version of NTFS, Microsoft Support have very good articles about FAT/NTFS.

You will only have MSDOS 6.22 and NT4 if you have installed as a Dual Boot System, NT4 does not have any MSDOS, it is an EMULATION within the Operating System, see:

The message "THIS PROGRAM IS NOT ACCESSIBLE THROUGH MS-DOS MODE" is activated by Windows Software when it is not run in the correct version of Windows, but instead attempted to be run in DOS.

If after all this you need read/write access to NTFS then purchase the SYSTEM TOOLS SOFTWARE ADMINISTRATOR PACK from:

which includes NTFSDOS PROFESSIONAL

As Wanderer (and others) have already indicated: NT cannot/will not install to a fat32 partition. NT will install to a fat16 (max 4Gig). But DOS will not install to a fat16 partition in excess of 2Gig...

Do actually have a dual-boot (DOS/NT) system here - or what?

Might be useful to post drive configuration details here (partitons/format) - so as to clarify what is where???
