shared between NT and 98.

Any suggestions?

YOU CAN'T, NT doesn't recognize fat32, you'll have to either reformat that area or use partition magic to convert it.

Right now I can boot into any OS viz., (a) Windows NT Workstation 4.0 (b) Windows 98 SE (c) PCQ Linux based on Red Hat 7.1. from XOSL.

Patition 2 - Dedicated XOSL
3 - Windows NT Workstation 4.0
4 - Windows 98 SE
6 - Shared between NT, 98, Linux
******** 8 - SHARED ONLY BETWEEN 98 & LINUX *********PROBLEM********
10 - Linux Swap (its about 500 MB coz I am using ORACLE 8i on Linux. RAM is 128 MB)
12 - PCQ Linux based on Red Hat 7.1

Right now I am using FAT32 file system driver for Windows NT 4.0. from http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/fat32.shtml to access this partition no. 8. But I can only read it (for writing I'll have to purchase !).

NT cannot format beyond 4GB in FAT.

I am asking "IS THERE ANY WORK AROUND TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM".

If you are willing to start afresh then there is away to give you a dual-boot ('98/NT4) that allows NT to have a partition over 4Gig (as ntfs).

Initially have a read of 3279 posted in this forum some time ago (credit to the chap who posted it then); but it does limit NT boot-partition to 4Gig... Then post back if willing to start afresh, and I will suggest a modification that will allow you achieve what you want, i.e. '98 + NT (as ntfs) over 4Gig.?

Thanks trvlr.

I have read "3279". They are using NT Boot Loader to dual boot 98/NT. Right? However there is a software called BOOTPART (http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm) to insert various entries in NT Boot Loader (other than various Windows OS, you can even add Linux i.e., even Linux can be booted from NT Boot Loader).
I am already multi-booting
(1) NT - from first FAT partition of about 4 GB
(2) 98 - second FAT32 partition of about 6 GB
(3) Linux - last partition of about 10 GB

Now I am left with about 20 GB starting at cylinder 1251 and ending at 4864.

Please tell me how to "share" this 20 GB partition between NT & 98 as "data" partition.

Any suggestions shall be a great help.
I am looking forward for your reply.

Either install "sysinternals.com" util to allow NT to read fat32 (the write version costs $$$/£££'s) and set the 20Gig as fat32; or set it as ntfs and use similar utils from syinternals to allow '9x to see ntfs.

Otherwise you have create several (10 in all) fat16 logical-drives - which will be accessibale for all M$ OS.

I guess you takes your choice of the above(?) - failing a total new start to enable larger NT (as ntfs partitions) during setup etc.?

Thanks trvlr, for your suggestions (though they are of no use to me).

In my response no.3 I have said that I am usind "system internals".

My partition no. 6 is of about 4 GB(formated in FAT from NT) and is accessible from NT and 98.
So I can make 5 (not 10, as you say) partition of 4 GB each in FAT (formated from NT) to "share" 20 GB.

Anyway, once again thanks a lot for your replies.

I am working to find some "WORK AROUND" for this situation. I shall post it here only when I find it.
In case you find anything do post it here.
