I've recently reassembled a network after a server HD failure that had no viable backup. Other than the HD crash, the system was working perfectly. I did not originally setup the system, nor am I that familier with NT Server. Nonetheless I have attempted the restore. Using NT 4.0 Server with Service Pack 3 or 4, (can't remember which). I've enabled DHCP. The problem is that after a couple of days some of the workstations are unable to connect to the server. While the server can be pinged from the workstation, mapped drives are inaccessible. (There is some error message that I cant recall right now, something like "computer name not found".) However, once the server is rebooted, everything is back to normal.
4 workstations are W98se and one is WXP.
I'm not sure what service pack was originally installed on the server, or if that is even the issue.
I originally had tried assigning the IP addresses but went to DHCP, thinking that may have been the problem.
Many Thanks,
Lee

Install the WINS Server Service on the NT Server and add Wins address of the server to each computer. See if that helps.
