PROBLEM 1:I have a Toshiba Tecra 750 running dual boot W95/NT 4.0 SP4.0. Nt will not shutdown properly and continues to reboot the machine. W95 operates properly on shutdown. Any suggestions ?
PROBLEM 2: Since installing SP 4 with NT, the systems keeps finding new hardware. This was not the case before the installation of SP 4.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Answer1: Is NT4.0 workstation or Server? If server, how much RAM do you have?
Answer2: You probably installed is Plug and Play. that's why it kept looking for hardware.

I agree with Timmy on the reboot issue. It is possible if running NT Server that you are deficeint in RAM (especially if running BACKOFFICE. Also, depending on what servies you are running also will suck down mem usage. We had the same problem on one of our web server at the office. Upping the ram took care of the problem.

i agree with timmy about the plug and play there is a way around you ca n disable it in services
About the rebooting , I dont Know if the computer is a laptop but the problem we have with laptops is that the shutdown tool of the laptop is disabled after running SP3 or SP4 so you have to reinstall it after sp3 or sp4
I hope this solves your problemgreetings RS

We have a Compaq Armada 3500 running NT4 workstation which keeps rebooting.
How do I reinstall the shutdown tool?
Thanks

Search the registry for the 'powerdownaftershutdown' value. Set it to zero. Then go to the Compaq site and download Power Mgmt, then the PM Enhancements. Re-Install these after any Service Pack is installed or re-installed.
