Subject: NT 4.0 hangs after startup
OS: Windows NT workstation 4.
CPU/Ram: Pentium III, 383MB
Comment:

I power on the computer. OS loader can load Win NT 4.0, but not completely. After the little window containing Windows icon appears, OS just hangs there (blocked). CPU seems to not continue to load OS. So the dialogue box ("Please press ALT+CTRL+DEL to continue" doesn't appear. I can't go further.

I tried to use other configurations. But on the configuration menu, I could only find ˇ§original configurationˇ¨ for choice and I couldnˇ¦t find ˇ§last known good configurationˇ¨. So that doesnˇ¦t help me. I donˇ¦t know how to check BIOS. I tried key F1 through F12, but I still failed to get the BIOS interface. Moreover, I am not sure whether and how to use BIOS to solve this problem.

I am in urgent need of your help:) Any information will be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Victor

I had a similar problem and after a few hours and countless times of rebooting my machine with my fingers crossed I asked my self what in any way is different this time than any other. I thought to myself and finally thought of the only thing that was different. You see, I moved from NY to FL and everything was set up the same except for one thing. In NY I had a web cam connected to one of my USB ports. I didn't think in any way that this would make a difference when turning on my computer without it, but never the less I shut off my machine, plugged in my camera and then turned it on. IT WORKED.. some times things just don't make sense. I recommend you check all your periphials including mouse and keyboard (more importantly USB items). Even the types matter. I tried a different type of mouse once going from a USB laser mouse back to the "old school" PS2 microsoft mouse and had the same problem. Good luck

Thank you, Gil:) I will try the method you recommended tonight. This problem didn't happen before. Hope the OS just only caught a fever.
