NT-A: Has the printer attached and shared.
NT-B: Has problem printing to NT-A.

Both are NT 4.0 Server (SP6a)

NT-B: "Test page failed to print. ... The system does not support the command requested."

When I try to print to LPT1 from the command prompt, I get "The system cannot write to the specified device." I finally tried to plug the printer directly into THIS computer only to discover that I have no parallel port on this system. From Printers folder, under Server Properties, I deleted LPT1 and added the local port //COMPTERNAME/HP, on the remote system, I have the printer set to the LPT1 port and shared as HP. This failed the first time, then after powering the printer off and on, it worked!

However, Notepad still says "Cannot access your printer."

Under Server Properties, I see the local port //COMPTERNAME/HP, but under the properties for the printer driver, this port does not exist. The option to add a port is greyed out. LPT1 shows up as the selected port for this driver.

(I've tried rebooting, deleting the ports, adding them back, stopping and restarting the spooler service. HP Tech support says basically, "not our problem. It's a networking problem, call Microsoft")

Thanks for any more ideas.

When you have you first NT box hooked up with the HP printer and its working fine. From the other NT box can you see the printer being shared out from network Neighborhood? If so have you tried adding the network printer form there. It will give you a saying "You need to add the drivers for this printer would you like to add them now or something like this". Add when you went to printers to add a printer is greyed out you said? or is it? Did you try mapping your network printer to your 2nd NT box? You shouldnt have to remove any local ports even if they arent physically there that would be the problem. DO you have any USB ports maybe on the 2nd NT box? Because if you do you can just a adapter for you parallel to USB if you have that port open to you on your 2nd NT box. Make sure also that both NT boxes can see each other and communicating. What do you have 1 PDC and BDC or just 1 PDC and stand alone? well hopefull what I have told you helps out some. If not post more and I will look into it more too.
