Subject: NT 4 Blue Screen after Update
OS: NT 4.0
CPU/Ram: Intel 700/128 RAM
Comment:
Have a client who is running old NT 4.
Ran updates because it was never done since it was installed (7 yrs ago).

After the Explorer service pack I installed anoher service pack (not sure what it was).

Now i get to the log in, screen goes blank, then blue screen comes up.

STOP: 0x0000001E (0x00000005, 0x8010AA3E, 0x00000001, 0x00000004) KMODE_EXCEPTON_NOT_HANDLED Address 8010aa3e has base at 80100000

I have ERD Commander and I can get to the tools to do the tweaks. Is there anything I can do here to fix this?

The client can't find the origional discs.

Thanks in advance.

What "Explorer" Service Pack are you referring to? Can you get into Safe Mode and uninstall it? What NT Service Pack are you running?

Thats the thing, I'm not sure.
The blue boot screen prior to the blue screen of death, indicates that service pack 6 is installed.

Its a Dell PowerEdge 1300 700MHz.
It has an on board scsi adapter (adaptec AIC 7890) which poses a new problem:

When I boot from the NT boot diskettes (3 of em)to run an NT repair I load my scsi controller drivers NT then load's the controller, NT can see the mass storage device, but can't see the cd rom.

When I boot from the NT CD (which I just got today from a friend) NT see's the cd rom, but after loading the same scsi drivers, lists the controller and the cd rom but says it can't find the mass storage device.

Puzzling. What to do?
