nt 3.51 scandisk at bootup lockup

I have an nt 3.51 machine locked up on me it runs scandisk now at bootup scans files then indexes locks up at82% and just sits there for 45 min longest I let it sit?? Is there any way to tell it to bypass the scandisk and just boot into windows then hopefully I could run scandisk from inside windows and it wouldnt lock. thanks for your help
