On the NT4 workstation PC get into the network properties and change it from a member of a Domain to a member a workgroup. Shut down & restart. Go back in to the network properties and change it from workgroup to a Domain and enter the name of the domain to join. You must also select the option to create an account on the domain, use the system admin account and password. Hopefully the PC will then join the domain and an account (SID) be created on the network.

We regularly get this problem when we restore a ghost image of an NT4 Workstation to a PC on our student LAN.
