Gateway 56k pentium processor,windows98.Power to speakers but no sound at all. Can hear scatchy noise when wiggle connection to tower. Help please and thanks.

first, try to connect the speaker cable to cd rom and play a music cd, if this works, then you can rule out that your speaker is ok and it is perhaps your sound card. check and make sure your sound card is installed properly. i hope this helps..

Don't be so quick to assume a bad soundcard. Check the lower right by your time and see if there is a yellow speaker. If not try going into the control panel under the Sounds icon and make sure that you have a "scheme" listed. No scheme selected means no sound. Also check your drivers in device manager under the System icon in the control panel. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Hope this helps...
