I have a perfectly running HP PIII 450 w/ 128MB RAM running NT 4 SP6a plus Microsoft Critical Updates. Been running for 1 month but upon a warm reboot, keyboard, mouse, and network card are disabled. CMOS detected keyboard and mouse fine. I have June 6, 2000 pattern of Norton Anti-virus running under the original NT installation.

So, next , I have installed a second NT installation and everything works.I also found that i8042prt.sys was somehow missing in original NT installation of c:\winnt\system32\drivers so I put the file back but still the same problem. All the drivers are still there.

Have anyone encounter this before ? may be a worm/virus modified the registry ? The NT boots to Ctrl+Alt+Del popup and an error message indicating a driver failed to load. At that point no keyboard , no mouse, and no network.

Anyhelp would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

-Gary
