Why is it that whenever i configure one of our win2000 machines to be a part of a domain, it creates a new profile for each user who logs into the domain. All background and start menu settings are lost. Is there a way to keep the old profile and log into a domain? Thanks for the help!

Each user logging into the machine forces the creation of a new profile.
You can copy the old profile to the new while logged in as Administrator.
Control Panel, System, User Profile. Select the profile you wish to copy, then copy to and in the next windows locate the new profile that was created when the domain user logged on.
Click OK and then OK again. The two profiles will then be identical.

I agree with Jennifer except that by copying your preferred profile to the Default User profile at the machines initial build you can stop this problem occuring from the start. You can still do this but it will not alter existing profiles, only those of users who have not logged on at that machine before.
