Never defrag NTFS

Comment:
I have never run a defrag on my NTFS drive (2 years) Is defragmenting NTFS necessary? Since NT 4.0 does not seem to come with a Defragmenting tool, what should I use? What happens if I never do? Is this really a problem, or do I only risk slower performance?

All depend. Try Diskeeper. You can get Diskeeper lite for free and you can upgrade if you like it. You can download it from cnet or similar sites.

To my knowledge you won't notice as big a degradation of performnce with an NTFS partition as a FAT partiion. but I agree obtain diskeeper lite. Defag could damage your files
