I have a Winnt computer running off a domain. I also
access a home network which runs off a workgroup. I can normally access both simultaneously, dialing into the domain with remote access and connected to workgroup through dhcp ip NIC. In Network Neighbourhood you see all the servers on the domain and the home workgroup. Sometimes I dial in successfully, but the network does not work, nothing on the domain shows up and if I access a network path on the domain it times out. I can try redialing, rebooting several times without it working properly. It will still not work until suddenly, by chance one time it will work. My first thought was that it was trying to access the domain from the nic. I figured there was a subnetting problem and that it was searching on the homenetwork for domain intranet ips. I changed the settings on dhcp server to assign ips 10.0.198.1 through 10.0.198.9 with subnet 255.255.255.0 . I thought my problem was solved but it still happened a couple days later. It wasnt hooked up to home network when it happened again. The lease was expired and it couldnt renew since it wasnt hooked up.Any ideas?
Also, can i add a specific domain user to local administrator group with something other than user manager to edit SAM so i don't have to wait an hour for the entire list of domain users to load over a 20 kbps connection (many, many, many domain users). that way i could start and stop devices, and renew an ip address while i was logged on to the domain instead of local Administrator.
