Comment: Hi, I am trying to install a network printer on NT4.01 server based network. I connected the ethernet cable to printer i.e. LexmarkT522 and the other end to the hub. 1. I tried to install the driver on NT 4.01 server, whch failed repetedly. 2. I beleive I need to create a TCP/IP port for that printer and later on shre it on the network so that other users can also access it.
Please advise. Thanks and best regards, Naaman

Reply: (edit)You need to set up a TCP/IP port monitor for the printer and then you can install the drivers. First you need to find the IP address of the printer. If you are using DHCP check the printer manual to make sure that the printer is set to use DHCP too. If IP addresses are fixed check the printer's manual on whether or not a fixed IP address can be set. A configuration print from the printer should list the allocated IP address. Next, run the program that I have emailed you ONCE only. hpspmnt.exe - this will add a new port monitor type to the system. Next goto Printers and Add printer, select 'this system' and when it asks for the port click on 'new port monitor' scroll down the list for the Hewlett Packard TCP/IP port and select that. Follow the screens, fairly self-explanatory. Input the printer's IP address when asked and most things then default. I have emailed hpspmnt.zip to you.

Reply: (edit)Hi, Thank you soooooooooo much for your detailed reply. Luckily I was able to configure it yesterday :) The steps were pretty the same as you mentioned. I configured the Lexmark network port (since its a Lexmark printer T522) and provided the IP address (printed from the printer itself and was also available from the DHCP server). BINGO. I would also like to mention that I was only able to configure the Lemark network port after restarting the NT 4.01 machine. Prior to that I was not getting the option to configure a network port (even than I did not get the option to configure a TCP/IP port). I will try setting up the TCP/IP monitor and see if I can get this TCP/IP monitor's. Thanks once again. Best regards, Naaman
