net card not detected by NT

Comment:
my 3com NIC isn't working in NT. NT detected the 3com drivers when I first installed the card and clicked on network properties but the card isn't listed on NT diagnostics - devices (should be IRQ 10) and the windows based 3com diagnostic program says there is no 3com nic attached to the computer. there was a different network card in the PC when I got it. do U have to set up the network card in NT setup (while installing)? the dos diagnostics program (3com) says there is no NIC attached when I run it in NT. but detects it in DOS (All the tests were passed on the nic so its not a hardware problem)

First, get upodated drivers and put them on a diskette. Go into nw propertied/adapters and search for the nic and use the have disk option. once it is listed, you should be able to add it. NT is picky about ddrivers with 3coms (especially if it is a 3C905x model)

I recall having this problem with a previous NT install, using a 3com 509b etherlink III ISA card...i dont recall if i tried different slots, however, i think i didn't as i havent many free...i seem to recall , however, that i installed the plug'n'play driver that's on the NT 4 Cdrom, and it must have worked, as i did have an internet connection afterwards..i also seem to remember that there was some issue with the 3com diagnostics not recognizing the card even afterwards. At any rate, if your still really stuck, and you've got an ISA card, you could always try the plug'n'play driver (it's in drvlib/pnpisa/x86 ..or whatever your chipset is...)
