We currently have an NT4.0 server (SP5) with internal and external network interfaces and all is fine. All I would like to do is add another IP address to the external NIC. The subnet mask and default gateway are the same as the first IP address. So here is the problem: when I connect to the internet from outside the LAN I can only ping the old IP address not the new one.
Can anyone tell me what might be wrong? Also ipconfig displays all appropriate info so it appears that I added the new IP address correctly.
Thanks in advance.

Make sure that the new IP address is
setup and propogated with your internet
service provider as an external address.

you probably have your reasons but usually multiple ips are used to create seperate logical subnets , each mask being different.

Need a little more info.
Are you using a router, static IP, etc.. to connect to your ISP?
What are you trying to do, RAS in pcanywhere in?
Wolfie is right , why are u subneting with only one server?

I am trying to use Netmeeting with MS proxy server and I would like to have more than one user able to initiate and receive calls behind the proxy server. Currently, more than one will be able to call out but with only one IP address bound to the external NIC only one client can receive calls.
So as far as I know, if I use more than one IP on the external NIC and I properly configure the clients, than I can use those external IP's for receiving calls.
I have 5 valid IP addresses as supplied by my ISP all with the same subnetmask.
Does this help? Also, perhaps you can tell me if this approach is correct.
Thanks again.
