MS Proxy Server FTP Problem

Comment:

I have an MS Proxy Server running a proxy for web access (http port 80). But FTP access don't work through the proxy.

On the Server the FTP Service is running, set to Port 21, Anomy. login is checked, Grant Access to all Workstations is checked.

When I try to FTP I get a "Name is Unresolved" - the FTP settings work from a Dial up. I've used different types of FTP software and I have double checked I've entered the FTP proxy name and port number correctly.

Any help or advice please

Is the problem that you can not ftp from outside to your FTP site on your proxy (IIS)or are your clients not able to ftp over the proxy to the outsideworld

The problem is I can't FTP from Clients inside the network to the outside world. There is just the Proxy server and an ISDN router between the workstations and the Internet.

The goal is to FTP updates to a website from specific workstations on the LAN, but although the setup looks correct on the client and MS Proxy to allow FTP through proxy it doesn't seem to work.

Final point, I can FTP using a direct connection directly on the proxy server, so I know my FTP settings are correct and TCP Port 21 works at the server.

Shot in the dark -

Do you have port 20 open? This is a connectionless port, but still needs to be open. Otherwise, you'll have to configure your FTP clients for "Passive" mode.

I've tried configuring the FTP Clients for Passive mode and Port 20 is open.

Any other Ideas ?

This one is really annoying, logically all the settings on Proxy look correct, but by all accounts they have never successfully used FTP through the proxy on this site before.

Hmm...IIS 4.0? Have you installed Proxy Server SP1? Are your clients running the Winsock Client Service?

I too am experiencing the exact same problem. Would appreciate an email if you get a solution that works. Very frustrating when you have to go to server to FTP Web Host.
Much Appreciated

Install the Microsoft Proxy Client 2.0 to fix this problem. The client auto configures itself on installation and should solve outbound ftp problems through the Microsoft Proxy Server.
