Hi,
I helped a friend last night partition his hard drive on Windows 98 using Partition Commander and then we successfully installed Windows NT 4.0
This was not an easy road, but we did it! Then I tried to get his modem set up in NT 4.0, but could not figure out how to do this. We tried finding a .inf file to use, we downloaded a driver for his modem(for NT 4.0) from the web to a floppy and then tried to use this in NT, all to no avail.
As I understand it, the probable reason the modem is not being recognized is because NT 4.0 is not PnP. He has a crappy modem, Conexant(Rockwell) HCF modem, which is a software based modem.
If anyone knows, please tell, how can we get his Conexant modem recognized in NT? It still works fine when he boots to windows 98.
Our purpose in doing this was to get him internet access whether he is in 98 OR NT.Another tidbit, we were using hyperterminal to test if we had the modem working, we never heard it dial once. Perhaps a sign of a larger problem, we could not successfully connect to com1 or com3 using hyperterminal in NT 4.0 either...
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Peter

Do you have the manuel for the modem? You need to move one or two pins on the modem card to get rid of plug-in play.

I am having the identical problem- I have downloaded 10 different Conexant/Rockwell HSP modem drivers for Win NT. I configured RAS, and dial up for each one, tested it, and then went through the delete and reboot process after each failure. The event log says the registry doesn't have the interrupt, bus, or address settings for the device. Forcing it just disables RAS. I have Service Pak 5 loaded. I would appreciate hearing how this gets resolved. Thanks
