missing ntoskrnl.exe error, help!!!

i cant boot up because of a missing ntoskrnl.exe . how do i fix this, hp cant help me. can i just DL the file off the net and put it on a disk or cd rom? i have tried EVERYTHING. the computer is an HP pavilion 7915 running windows xp please email me if you have a solution

This is actually the NT forum(?) nonetheless...
Run XP setup and allow it to 'repair' the boot/startup files. This should restore the missing file.
If you can copy the file from another (good) XP system, then do so and install to your system.
Other item to check - perhaps first - providing you can access the system partition (C: root) from a '98 boot-disk (i.e. XP is fat32 not ntfs). Inspect the boot.ini and see if the path statement for XP is correct...
