I duel boot Win95/NT. When boot Win95, CD-rom/Sound card visible & working. When I boot NT, the CD-Rom light comes on during NTDetect, but once fully loaded, it's no where in site. The only thing that I've found that MAY have something to do with it, is in Event Viewer, says that ComPort1 was already in use by another device. ?? Any ideas?

Check NT Diagnostics(resources) - do they show up there? Normally if the CDROM isn't proprietry it should work properly under NT. When everything is OK on Win9x Go to the BIOS setup and disable Plug and Play. Make sure that you download right NT drivers for your devices.

I had the same problem (missing cdrom), this was how I got mine to work:

For your CD-ROM drive, open Control Panel / SCSI adapters (even if cdrom is IDE). Cdrom drive should be listed under one of the SCSI devices. If it isn't, you probably have a bad connection, device or driver.

If it is (like mine), run Disk Administrator and ensure that drive letters are assigned to the cdrom(s). This solved my problem. The drive letters for both my IDE cdrom and SCSI CDR were mysteriously left as unassigned.

You should also ensure that your SCSI devices and the cdrom device are "started" by looking under your Control Panel / Devices applet.

For your sound card, the device should also be "started" under the Control Panel / Devices applet.
