I have noticed that for some reason the C drive icon has disappeared from the MyComputer folder--AND is also not listed in my Windows NT Explorer! The C(hard) drive IS still in my computer and is unchanged in content . My computer uses it to function and I can access it by using Start/Run/C:
But it is most aggrevating to have to do that and I don't know how to remedy this situation or why it happened.
Can anyone help me make it "reappear"? Your help would be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks, Joe W.(in Austin,TX.)

Try TweakUI, download it from microsoft.
Click My computer. You can check/uncheck a drive.
Maybe this solves your problem.

Does not seem to install itself in the Control Panel per intructions. I'm not finding it there to check any icon boxes
???? Joe

If you unpack it, the tweakui.cpl should be 105 kb in explorer.
Put it to c:\winnt\system32 if you have the default directories.Besides you could check what 'standard shares' you have by typing 'net share' to a DOS window.
Standard shares appear as C$ or D$. Administrators are allowed to connect to those shares, maybe it is related to your problem, if you don't have a standard share.

SUCCESS!!!
Thank You Very Much, Mike!
I was able to drag a copy of tweakui.cpl to my system32 folder. And "Vualla"--there it appeared in my Control Panel with check boxes and everything. I quickly fixed my problem--my C drive icon is "up" and visible again. Super!!!
Our "IT people" have been scratching their collective heads for 2 weeks on this-- I VERY much appreciate your help. You solved this for me in about 24hrs.
Thanks You AND Computing.net for this GREAT forum of knowledgable helpful people.
