Comment: WIll someone check this for me please . I want to make an NT4.0 boot floppy disk . I copied the NTLDR file from the NT4.0 CD and to a floppy disk and renamed it SETUPLDR , I don't remember why I renamed it now , and copied NTDETECT.COM to the floppy from the NT4.0 CD and now I'm trying to create a BOOT.INI file to complete the NT4.0 BOOT floppy disk . I think I write the following lines to Notepad then copy to a folder then copy to the floppy disk . Do I copy the folder or the contents ? [bootloader] timeout=30 Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\winnt [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\winnt="WindowsNT" I want to boot a 10Gig harddrive . I want to make the boot floppy disk on another computer with Windows XP Home Edition . I want to install NT4.0 to a 4Gig partition and use the rest of the harddrive after the installation reboot . du a mb

Reply: (edit)First of all, you can't make an NT boot disk from XP. Secondly, there are three NT setup disks, not just one. I believe that's what you're trying to say...that you want to install NT and not just boot to a floppy? If so, go to www.bootdisk and download the zip file that you must expand and then create the three NT boot floppies. Or are you just trying to get an already installed NT version to boot up? Reply: (edit) I'm trying to install NT . And why didn't the bios flash program work ? ! I forgot to format the floppy as a boot disk . thankyou , I have the bootdisk utility ready to make the 3 boot floppies . And can I just format using Windows XP , the hard drive I've been trying to install Windows NT onto just to clean out any junk that may have accumulated on it ? I tried flashing the bios without a boot file on the floppy disk and used Seagates Seatools and DiskWizard too . If I can format using Windows XP , how many clusters should I format with , like 16K or 512K , considering something may have messed up a boot file in the hard drive . du a mb

Reply: (edit)I think you're making it much more difficult for yourself. :) You don't need to fdisk, format, or anything else beforehand. You don't use XP to format a drive if you're installing NT on it. Boot to the first NT boot disk. Follow the wizards and when prompted, insert the diskettes. Then, run the installation from the NT CD, formatting the drive when prompted. It's that simple. Soylent Green is PEOPLE!
