Comment:

I am using a dual PII system running NT4 (SP3) and have installed a new LT Win Modem (PCI)
However on reboot NT determines that the com port is not in use and disables it.

this can usualy be rectified by adding the com port and rebooting, but it always looses it on the next reboot.

the event viewer also returns the following error:

The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

I have tried disabling com1 and com2 in the bios, setting the modem to use com 3 or com4, but it still happens.

Help would be much appreciated.

I am having the same problem, the system will not recognise COM 3. I have been told that it will work if you assign the modem to COM 1 or 2 however that is not much use if as me you need COM 1 and 2 for other applications.

I have a similar problem. It is on a hp pavilion with dual boot 98 and nt4. 98 runs the lt win modem fine, but even with playing around with ras etc and using a supposed nt ltwin modem driver, I cannot get it to work. The ras won't even start..manually!

Similar problem here as well..except after loading SP3 and then the so called "correct LT Winmodem Drivers", and then DUN & RAS, then SP4, then after the reboot my system comes to a screaching halt & gets hung up on the ltmodem.sys file & of course the dreaded blue screen of death! I've read that you may(and I use that term loosely)be able to obtain the "correct?" driver from Lucent direct via e-mail. I have yet been able to get a response from them so good luck!

I have had similar problems with LT win modems, I always found it necessary to remove the card from the computer - reboot without the card, then re isntall the card from scratch. Not much use with NT4 (not PNP) but this always worked for me with 95. To make it use COM port 3 allocate com ports 1 and 2 to another device when the modem is physically removed from the computer. The LT should default to com 3

Folks
The not enough storage space is a known error in winnt 4. It happens when you install the service pack before installing the modem.

To fix it, simply reinstall the service pack
