I have lost the password for one of my installations of NT4, which I haven't used in a long time (called "AC"). I have another installation of NT4 on the same hard disk, so I can boot it up and change files on the other installation. Is there anything I can do to change or replace the Admin password on the AC installation while running the regular NT4 installation ? e.g., will copying the "Profiles" folder over solve the problem ? Or are the passwords stored in the registry ? I'll try any ideas you can come up with.

Also, I Don't have an emergency Repair disk, because I figured I would hardly ever use this and wouldnt need one. Stupid, I know.

There are several possibilities. If you like it comfortable, go to www.sysinternals.com or wininternals.com and buy NT Locksmith and ERD Commander. These tools reset the admin password.
www.mirider.com (NTAccess) 70 US$Next possibility - I didnt try it, but it sounds logic - is to exchange logon screensaver against commandlineinterpreter
(cmd.exe), eg. ‘copy cmd.exe \winnt\system32\logon.scr’
FIRST save the original one, to logon.old
Reboot, and when you are on the command line, start the User manager
You should be able to change the password.Or you can try to crack the ‘Security Accounts Manager Database’ (SAM) with L0phtCrack.
You have the choice...

Thank you, Blumini. The screen saver method works perfectly ! I am now logging in as Administrator with no password. I think I will keep it that way.

I had a similar problem and tried the same procedure to resolve it but after the machine rebooted it still came up with the Cntl-Alt-Del screen instead of the cmd window. Is there another .SCR file I need to copy over?
