Losing network mappings

Getting a call from few specific users (run on Windows NT) saying there were unable to log in some programs that reside in network. The problem was the users' network mappings were lost. It wouldn't come back even if they logged out and re-logged in. So I had to manually map to the drives. But the users run login script which maps to the network drives and users are not supposed to lose mappings, weren't they? (The specific servers were not down at that time).
So why my question is why (to some users) neetwork mappings are lost?

If they log out and log back in, could be a WINS problem. Try putting static entries on the WINS server pointing to the servers you are trying to map to. Also maybe check the TCP/IP properties of the clients that are having the problem vs. clients that are not. Maybe there's a check where they're shouldn't or a DNS entry that is off. Of course, if you're using DHCP it kinda kills that theory.
