I've got a network with an NT 4 server, and a win 98 laptop (there are more computers, but I don't think its important here).
The problem is, although I've created the logon script (calling it common.bat), and assigned it to the user who logs on to the laptop, the script is not executed.
I know he is being validated by the domain controller (he has access to restricted shares), so i'm kind of stumped to whey the file isn't executing.
any ideas? suggestions?
Thanks anyway.

got a fix.
i had to set it to use ixp/spx as its default protocol. why it works I don't know, and to be honest I'd prefer to just use tcp/ip.
if anyone has a better fix, or an explanation, I'd like to hear it.

Where did you provide this logon script ?
Logon scripts should be in \\server\winnt\system32\repl\import\scripts
And you have to have make an entry in the user manager for domains, that this script should be executed.
Maybe the way you did it, TCP was not working yet, while booting/logging in.

the logon script is in that directory (with the server name substituted in the place of server).
The user is in the domain, and the script has been assigned to then in the user profile screen. (I have it working on another machine.)
The problem appears sporadic. which is kinda irritating

So if one machine logs on fine using TCP/IP and the other only works with IPX, then isn't it a case of corrupted drivers on the other box!...ie Reinstall fresh drivers
(not from it's own HD).

They are logging in via Client for Microsoft Networks, correct?
What exactly is your script doing?
I had a similiar problem. The logic of the bat file was sound but it was sporadic.
I added a 3 second delay in the bat file. it works fine now.
