Login script dilemma

I extract a weekly antivirus dat file to a network share. I use an xcopy command in the users login script to copy files if the source is newer than destination. The problem is not with the execution of the script but with the may that the McAfee program reacts. After the weekly update, some machines get an error message stating that the virus definition files are corrupt and to reinstall the product. If the user logs off and logs in and lets the script run again it works fine and the definitions are updated. My guess is that the program is expecting certain dat files and when they are different it assumes they are corrupt. Anyone encounter this problem before? I know that the users do not want to have to login twice even just once a week. I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

We use McAfee here where I work and there is way to update the dat files via the McAfee console. It takes a little pre configuration but it works great.

Here are the specs from Network Associated web site.

Rename SDATXXXX.exe to SETUP.exe and copy to the AutoUpgrade site (UNC or ftp).
Download the file AUTOUPG.ZIP, from http://www.nai.com/naicommon/download/dats/superdat.asp. AUTOUPG.ZIP contains the file ‘PKGDESC.INI’ and ‘setup.iss’ for Dr. Solomon, McAfee for alpha, and McAfee for x86. Extract the appropriate files from the .ZIP archive to the AutoUpgrade site.

NOTE: If your upgrade server runs UNIX or another case-sensitive operating system, verify that you have named the PKGDESC.INI file in the correct upper or lower case. The AutoUpdate version included with VirusScan anti-virus software for Win9x expects to find a lower-case filename: pkgdesc.ini. Anti-virus software for Windows NT expects to find an upper-case name: PKGDESC.INI.

You can now configure the VirusScan AutoUpgrade task on your workstations to point to this directory and their scan engines will be updated when it executes.

What I do each week is to have a program called Getright download the files from Network Associates FTP site. You must be a licensed user to get to their FTP site.

Them I run a batch file to copy it to rename it and copy it to the appropriates directorys on the server.
Then all my PC's (about 100) are scheduled at different times during the day to upgrade. Has been working great for about 1 year now.
