Hi there, I have a Lan which comprises of xp,w2k,and 9x machines. Some times when I'm online I discovered that Internet/Network Security Software vendors were able to access and display to me via pop up window some files in my machines, as a way of showing me that my network is vulnerable to hackers, while advertizing their product. Infact I've been doubting that hackers can penetrate corporate networks but now I believe. So my question is how do I cofigure Network Security to prevent any penetration into my Lan through the internet, without third party tool. My lan includes xp, w2k, and 9x machines and a router - Eric

Don't lock yourself in a box. Its going to take a combination of hardware and software to do what we all do. You are NOT going to be able to configure security without the combination.

So where were you during the I love you virus and the msblaster worm???? I would highly suggest you do some serious study on the subject of network security and how its being compromised. Otherwise you have no idea what you need to protect yourself from.
