Can anyone tell me why ISDN disconnects after a short idle-time when an analog modem does not?
Is it possible to adjust this setting?
Thanks

You don't say if you are connecting via a router? If you are, telnet into it and change the connection/Internet settings on the timeout. Set it to what you like, but not too long as it can get expensive.
If you are using a TA, you can change the settings in the TA software. Just click around until you find it.
I can't be more specific as I have no idea what system you are using, if you have a router or not, what make of TA you may or may not be using.
Sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks Rob.
We have 2 offices. One has a Win2k lan with 16 machines, the other has a WinNT lan with the same no. of machines. The offices are unconnected.
The internet gateway machines on both networks have the same internal ISDN card - Mecer IS128PCI (Conexant HSF). I installed both cards from the same cd.
On the NT machine, a connection hangs up after approx 3 mins idle time. The properties for the card in NT are minimal, with few configurable options, including no config for idle time etc.
Windows 2000 has much more features, including settings for idle-time disconnects, redial if line dropped etc. As both cards were installed from the same cd, I presume that the extra features are part of Win2k DUN.
Tech supp at my ISP said to me that ISDN was developed for streaming multimedia, and because it was an expensive technology when first developed, that this 3 min idle time was built in. Is this correct?
However, this does not help me with my prob on the NT machine. The offie does a lot of research/reading on the web, and staff are frustrated with having to redial if it has been 3 mins since last data download.
I would like to be able to give the system a longer idle-time before disconnect.
Thanks.
