I did install my NIC card (Linksys EtherPCI LAN CARD II) on an NT4 server. The install
of the card went fine. But there
are couple of concerns:
1. My card seems to be well installed
(no error message during the install of it's
driver+ in CONTROL_PANEL->NETWORK->ADAPTER,
this NIC card is there + under CONTROL_PANEL->Protocols->TCP_IP, the IP of the NOC card is there + in CONTROL_PANEL->DEVICES, I can see my Linksys Adapter with "STARTED" as status and STARTUP=AUTOMATIC. And the green light at the back of my NIC card send me the signal that it works, same thing on the hub
it is connected to! So seems that
my NIC card is functional. But how come I
do not see the other pcs in my NT4 network neighborhood, and how come the other pcs cannot me my NT4 server. weird, since netbeui and tcp/ip common settings are ok!
2. When I go to CONTROL_PANEL->NETWORK->ADAPTER, and I double click on the
NIC card, I get a message asking me to enter the ETHERNET ID of the card. I do not have that. And anyway, I has this card installed
on several NT servers and never had to fill
in that ETHERNET ID. I have an option that says "select Ignore if you want the driver to work on any free 940 adapter"..but if I select that, I still have no access to the properties of my NIC card.

Are any of the other computers sharing something like a folder or printer?

what os are the other machines runing. If they are win 95/98 they need to have share file and print service turn on or installed. If they are NT then, do you have wins installed?

You've ask about the correct intall of your card. You can try pinging your card's ip address, eg. c:\ping 192.5.5.4 if you get a reply then your card is install ok along with you tcp/ip.
