Comment:

When I type ipconfig /release or ipconfig /renew at a dos prompt, I receive the following error "the name specified is not recognized as in internal command, batch file..." Why does NT not recognize the command? Any ideas?

That's a new one, perhaps something is wrong with tcp/ip and it should be reinstalled. Does it understand Ping?

before you do the above, search your hard drive for ipconfig.exe, NT is saying it can't find it.

There is a space "ipconfig /release"
Not "ipconfig/release"

Search for the ipconfig file and note the path to it. Open the control panel and select system. Click on the environment tab and select the path in the top box and make sure the directory where ipconfig is located is in the path. By default it should be in the winnt or winnt\system32 directory. Hope this helps
