I have a server loaded with NT 4.0. It has a HP Laserjet 3200. The printer worked on this system for years. A few days ago, i tried to print a doc when the screen popped up stating I/O device error. I reloaded the drivers and checked the path of the printer. It is still visible. I got frustrated and pulled the printer and hooked it to a stand alone. Again the same error message came on. Then this morning, I fired up the box. The stand alone now printed docs but not until after a series of garbled one liners printed on several sheets of paper. So, the printer worked. I rehooked it up to the server and nothing. I even reloaded the driver again. I need help badly. Thanks.

I would blame the cable at that point.

What cable connection does the printer have? Does it have a built-in NIC or does it use an external HP Print Server connecting via a parallel cable?

Try different cables and if an external Print Server can you swap that for another one?
