Running IE 5.5 (Windows NT workstation) with no problems. This week when I tried to access certain sites IE would freeze (couldn't close anything...ctrl+alt+del...end IE task). I upgraded to IE 6 and all appeared to be working well (accessing sites no problem). I can search off yahoo, excite etc and then after a few clicks it freezes again. The strange thing is no error messages. I re-installed the latest service pack and same result. I deleted, re-installed IE with the same result.
Any ideas?

Bring up Task Manager, and watch the processes screen. Leave it up while you browse the net. Look for a process to take over the CPU cycles. Depending on which process does it can tell you where to look.
Also, what kind of system do you have? CPU, RAM and the like.
Chase

PIII 500Mhz, 256MB SDRAM
CPU cycles ok...only at 1% for IE 5.5 SP2
CPU cycles at 98% or 99% for Idle processMatrox Graphics Productiva G100 AGP video adapter (8MB)
I switched to VGA mode and same result. Could it be IE or the video card?

Same problem as above on my new Toshiba Laptop. This is the first time I am using a Celeron and not a Pentium. I have been assured that this is not the problem. I have eliminated everything from my start-up disk but this doesn't work either.

You guys are not the only ones. I also have the same problem. PIII 512ram 1.8g. Even with this strong pc, I still have these major problems of freezing.

My friend has a pentium r -- had no problems with ie5. Her daughter downloaded & installed msn messenger and the freezing started -- she can't do anything. She can still use her pop3 connection for email, but can't browse. How can I get another version of IE for her without a browser -- ftp? Haven't done that in a while....what site?
Thanks

I have the same problem. Load my browser page(or any pg after that) and it loads fine till the page comes up and near the very last 2 seconds of loading it freezes..but after about 1 minute the page comes back fine..till i go to the next page and we start all over again with the end of the page freezing..i have a PII lots of hd space. every thing else works fine email everything including msn/icq. any ideas?

I have a problem with my IE5.5SP2.The page loads 50% of the content and when the blue metering band on bottom Right Hand side of the screen reaches its end the whole screen freezes for about 5 minutes and then allows me to continue. Once the blue measuring band on bottom RH side of screen disappears, then and only then the rest of the page unfreezes and I am able to input until I go to the next site or next page and the whole cycle is repeated. This is so frustrating.
Can you help?
My system is Pentium III 450 and 198 MB Ram.
I run the ie repair utility, but did not help. I have uninstall IE5.5SP2 down to IE5.5SP1 and run again the repair utility without success.
I have several ISPs. The fault happens with everyone .So I don’t think there is a bandwidth problem. So the fault must lie with my explorer.
Can you please help?

I have a client that has this same problem. She has two computers at home, networked through a linksys router and Road Runner Cable modem, so speed is not an issue.
The laptop is running Win98 and works normal.
The Desktop was running Win98 and Internet Explorer 5.0 and was having this problem. I upgraded to WinXP and Internet Explorer 6.0 and we are still having the long delay at the end.
So we can rule out the connection, the Operating System, The Hardware, and the Internet Explorer Software.
The only thing it can be is some other peice of software intruding on Internet Explorer or some kind of bug, or odd setting, in Internet Explorer that goes across multiple versions.
So my question is... How do we get an answer to this?
Dave
