I have a modem on a Windows NT 4.0 server and want to share it's internet access to the other windows 98 PC's connected to my local LAN. Windows 98SE ICS is fine if the PC with the internet modem is running Win98SE but I want the modem on the NT4.0 PC.
How goes it?
Surely I don't need to purchase any additional software as I thought the whole point of having a server was to share resources to the other users.

NT doesn't have the ability to share its connections. That ability came out a lot later in the likes of 98se, 2000, Xp and the like.
If you have a server in your network it is usually the machine that has the sensitive data on it and it is therefore not a good idea for it to have shared internet connections anyway. It would be much safer for you to use another machine with any of the aforementioned Operating systems plus some firewall software or (an even better solution if you have the time and inclination to learn about Firewalls etc.)you could find an old PC hanging around and make it into a firewall using linux.
Some choices could be
IPcop
Smoothwallboth of which are exclusively firewall solutions or just get any popular version of Linux
Red Hat
Suse
Mandrake
Debianetc. etc.
which all have firewall software built in. All of these you can purchase for very little on the web if you do not have a broadband connection for a download solution

Craig Lander,
Or you could use FreeSCO its also free. Its a Linux base firewall/router. And it can be use with modem.
And much better to follow Mick's suggestion about puting your Gateway on different computer aside from your NT Server.
