Instant Message to an IP address

Is there any way to send an instant message to an IP address? The only programs I've ever seen only send to the user / computer name.
The reason I'm asking is because we are trying to re-assign the static IP addresses throughout our buildings, however we continue to run across addresses in use that should be unassigned. We would like a simple, quick method to send an instant message and have the user call us. This would be a lot more productive then just using the address and see who calls with a conflict.

You can use "net send", but IMHO this one is limited to computer- and usernames only, but if you've got WINS up and running this shouldn't be too big a problem.
if you have pdc goto server manager, its there that you can send msg to all users in the domain. hope that helps

I have a better idea for what you are doing. Go to ftp.tamos.com/esstls2.zip and download the evaluation copy of Essential NetTools. With this tool you just put in a start IP address and a end IP address and it will scan the whole range and build a list of NetBios name to IP address mapping. It also has a bunch of other cool features. If you do decide to buy it it is only $19.00.
