Hi,
I'm installing Windows NT 4.0 on a machine that has an IBM 20.5G bytes IDE hdd. Since the Hdd is greater than 8 Gbytes I downloaded the Atapi.sys file from the Microsoft site so that the capacity problem can be fixed. However when I started to install the N.O.S using the diskettes provided with the package and I manually added the new Atapi driver (as clearly stated in the Q197667) Windows NT gave me the following error

Setup has determined that the hdd I'm using has more than 1024 cylinders.....

Setup is unable to locate the hard drive partition prepared by the MSDOS portion of setup. Setup can not continue

And I have to exit and re-start the computer.

On the other hand if I do not use the new Atapi.sys file and perform the installation using the CD, Windows NT 4.0 does not recognise the hdd as a 20Gbytes Hdd but as an 8Gbytes hdd. Can you please help me to solve this problem without having to use only 8Gbytes rather than the full capacity.

Best regards,

NT has a boot partition limitation around 7GB, it is highly recommended that you do not create the boot drive larger than 4 GB or so. You can create the partitions and any additional partitions needed to utilize the full capacity of the drive during the NT load process. To use the maximum drive partition for the boot drive, you may need to update the atapi.sys files with the ones provided in SP 4 or higher. Check the Microsoft KB for more info. If you have a single 20GB drive I recommend the following partition configurations:
c:(boot) 3GB NTFS
d: log files 2 GB DOS
e: 15GB NTFS
