Installing NT4.0 over Win3.1

Comment:
When attempting to install NT4.0 over DOS6.1/Win3.1, I get the error message: 'This version of MSCVRT20.DLL is not compatible with WIN32S.', and the system hangs.
After deleting the entire WIN32S directory in Win3.1 and attempting the installation again, I get a different message: 'WIN32S ERROR - At least one system component is out of date. Please re-install ODBCST32.exe.', but this time the system does not hang. ODBCST32.exe is dated 14-10-96.
'Out of date' suggests that it may be necessary to set the date to something prior to 1-1-2000, before installing first NT4.0 then SP6A, which I believe contains the 'Y2K' amendments. Can anyone advise me please, before I screw up irreversibly?

I am not convinced that the date is important as I have installed NT4 on 2 servers in the last year with no problems. Are you trying to install NT4 alongside the old Win 3.1 or instead of? Could you not wipe the disc and start afresh? This would give you a cleaner install. You'd need to backup important data files etc first but to me a clean install is the best option.
