inetinfo.exe

Comment:
Why is inetinfo.exe randomly causing my WinNT 4 server to use up its CPU to 100%? It kills any functionality on the websites. I have seen this patch and that patch and what it could be. How can one determine what is causing it? I have SP 6, and the rollup patch, plus a few others.

inetinfo is the content indexer at work, gobbling up all the resources your server has available. You probably have "Index this directory / site" turned on in the general properties of the site / virtual directory. If you dont host a search engine on the box, built on Index Server, you can safely turn off indexing. It's a security risk anyway.

As far as I know, inetinfo.exe is the IISADMIN or IIS Administration service in Windows NT and 2000. Clicking off "Index this Site" does not stop inetinfo.exe.

I know that Clicking off "Index this Site" does not stop inetinfo.exe, but it does definitely prevent the problem of the CPU pegging at 100% Randomly.
