Subject: INACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE - Iomega ZIP
Comment:

Hi, I have Windows NT Workstation fully installed with service pack 6 128-bit.

I installed a parallel port Iomega ZIP drive.

After installing the drivers then plugging the ZIP drive to the parallel port-- I reboot NT and I get a INACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

Windows NT *will* reboot upon disconnecting the ZIP from the parallel port.

I have swapped out Iomega ZIP driver, "ppa3nt.sys" with different versions and still get the same error.

When I reboot with the ZIP plugged in -- you can hear the ZIP drive spin then the boot crashes and the error occurs ( blue screen ).

* I've already gone to the Iomega tech support site - nothing.

* I've already emailed tech support to Iomega -- nothing back yet.

* Already gone to the Microsoft web site -- worthless.

* I have been to my motherboard manufacturer's web site -- worthless.

My systems stats are:

ABit BP6 Dual 533 PII Motherboard
256 MB RAM
20 Gig. Maxtor Harddrive

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,
Greg

HHHHMMMMM
It's trying to boot from it, so I'd go to the BIOS and check out the boot order but a parallel port being involved in booting is a new one. Wild guess, disable the port in the system BIOS. Please post a follow up, thanks.

Hi NED,

I did the following:

My boot sequence was setup as the following:
"C,A,EXT"

the "EXT" can either represent a "UDMA66" or a "SCSI" type device. It was setup as "SCSI".

I changed it to "C,A,CD-ROM" just to make sure.

I rebooted and got the "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE".

The next change I made was disable the parallel port.

The blue screen did not happen, but, as I expected, the ZIP driver failed to load due to the fact it couldnt find a parallel port and ZIP drive.

hmmmmm.... this problem is new to me as well.

Greg

Stop 7b I believe, it's got to be the driver.
I'm having difficulty with an Iomega Ditto tape on an NT server. In my case it's got to be the wrong driver too. Searching the Ditto site, I think that another driver is loading in front of the right one. Do a find on that driver and see if you find a similar one next to it and rename that one.

I think your right.
It is what I suspected all along as well.

Let me know if you get your Ditto drive to work Ned. ( my email: greg2178@hotmail.com )

I would like to know what you did to correct the problem.

I, on the other-hand, will continue to swap out drivers until I get it to work on my machine.

Thanks again,

Greg
