IE shuts down pop up windows

I am sure this is a stupid question, but I was helping a friend on his win nt system and I was trying to do set up a radio station for him and it requires the browser to pop up a window and register. Everytime the window popped up, it would immediately shut down that window. I didn't have the time to work on it but it dawned on me there must be a setting that is rejecting the pop up windows somewhere. Can anyone give me some insight where to look for the next time I am there. Thanks in advance. Bill
