Reply: (edit)WHAT??? Partition magic to make partitions??? You should be using NT's DISK ADMINISTRATOR of the admin menu to create partitions from within NT. ITS FREE AND BUILT IN! Jennifer I am surprised at you! "You'll need to install a third-party software, such as Partition Magic." This statement is simply wrong.

Reply: (edit)Okay. Maybe I am wrong. I didn't think any OS would allow you to break up one partition and create others from that existing partition. If the C drive is using all of the HDD capacity, what option does one use to break that partition up into separate partitions?

Reply: (edit)NTs Disk Administrator can only create new Partitions from unused (not formatted) Disk space. It is not possible to split an existing partition. For me Partition Magic is first Choice. uli

Reply: (edit)Sorry Jennifer but we didn't read the question the same. I figured the author was talking about creating other partitions which is what you would use Disk Administrator for and not fdisk. Fact that waqqascrazy mentions using fdisk would lead me to believe there was available disk space or fdisk would give the clear message no available space to create a partition. I never saw a mention of wanting to break up c: but only creating other partitions which almost every one knows you can only do if you have available space to create partitions.
